Dormers Wells Sports Ground – Community Orchard Planting

The Southall Orchard Project was completed on Saturday 7th March 2020, 12pm to 2pm  when we finished planting the fifth and final community orchard at Dormers Wells Sports Ground/ Mount Pleasant Fields, Dormers Wells Lane, Southall UB1 3JB. . Read more

Following on from the Great British Spring Clean Event in April, we again joined Ealing Council, the Canal & Rivers Trust and other partners with a follow up litter pick outside the Army Reserve Centre.

Litter Pick & Orchard Maintenance 

On Sat 10 Aug 2019, 2-3.30pm we joined Ealing Council’s Park Rangers and Southall Community Alliance for a quick clean up around the park and a spot of fruit tree mulching.

Green Energy Event & AGM
On Thurs 13 Jun 2019, 6pm we held a Green Energy event. One of Groundwork’s  Green Doctors was present to offer practical support to people that helps them to make their homes more environmentally friendly and cheaper to run.

We also screened the documentary ‘Switch’ before ending the evening with our Annual General Meeting.

The Great British Spring Clean 2019 

On Sat 27 April 2019, 10.30am to 1pm we joined many groups and organisations to help clean up the area along the Grand Union Canal by Bankside to encourage people to use the canal for walking, running and cycling.

AGM & Blue Planet 2 Screening
On Tues 15 May 2018, 7.30pm we held our Annual General Meeting followed by the screening of an episode of the BBC’s Blue Planet 2 series.

Community Orchard Planting Event

Phase 3 of the Southall Orchard Project took place at:

Jubilee Park (accessible from Jubilee Gardens and Somerset Rd, Southall UB1) on Saturday 4th March 2017, 10.30am to 2.30pm.

On Yer Bike!
Sat 11 November 2017, 10am to 2pm. We partnered with several organisations who are cycling experts to put together a fun cycling event for all ages.

Foraging for Wild Edibles  On Saturday 19th August 2017 from 10.30 am to 1.30pm, Foraging, jam and smoothie making event in Havelock & Top Locks.

Southall Transition AGM – 4 May 2017, 6pm Our 2017 Annual General Meeting took place on Thursday 4th May 2017, 6pm at St John’s Community Hall, Havelock Rd, Southall, UB2 4DH.

Phase 2 of the Southall Orchard Project was completed at Southall Recreation Ground. on Saturday 4th March 2017, 10am to 3pm.

Incredible Edible Talk –  Thursday 26th January, 7pm at The Dominion Centre, 112 The Green, Southall UB2 4BQ. Pam Warhurst is one of the founders of the ‘Incredible Edible’ community food growing scheme in Todmorden. On 26th January she gave a talk about this very successful initiative. Read more.

The Bixley Triange Hedge Planting took place on Sat 3rd December 2016, 11am-1pm. The site underwent the next stage of its transformation when 40 metres worth of fruiting hedges was planted. Read more.

The crash course was screened on Thursday 24 November 2016, 7-9pm at St John’s Community Hall, Havelock Rd, Southall, UB2 4DH. Read more.

Orchard Care Training, Saturday 1st October, 11am-1pm                                                       The Tree Council returned to Southall Park to provide some training in orchard care.

Summer Fun Day, Sunday 17th July 2016, 1pm – 4pm at Bixley Field. Access from Willowbrook Road, Southall UB2 4RQ .

Southall Park Work Day & Free Training – Sunday 5th June, 11am to 1pm.This was an opportunity to do some weeding and mulching in the Southall Park Community Orchard and receive free pruning training from the Tree Council.

Our AGM took place on Thursday 12th May 2016, 7pm at St John’s Community Hall, Havelock Rd, Southall, UB2 4DH.

A Neighbourhood Action Day took place on Tuesday 10 May 2016, 10am – 12.30pm at Bixley Field, end of Willowbrook Road, Southall UB2 4RQ.

No Impact Man was screened on Thursday 28 April 2016, 7pm at St John’s Community Hall, Havelock Rd, Southall, UB2 4DH. Read more

Southall Orchard Project Work Days:

  •  5th March 2016, 11am – The Southall Park Community Orchard was completed.
  •  6th February 2016, 11am – a large amount of orchard trees and fruiting hedges were planted in the vicinity of the globe.
  • 23rd January 2016, 11am – mainly shrubs were planted around the periphery of Villiers High School and their Multi Use Games Areas with help from the students.

The Southall Orchard Project was launched on 5th December 2015, 11am at Southall Park, where the first community orchard was planted. Read more

Family Fun Day 2014 took place on Sunday 29th June 2014, 1 pm – 5 pm, at Southall Community Garden, Bixley Field – Access from Willowbrook Road, Southall, UB2 4RQ.

The Power of Community was screened on Friday 9th May 2014 at Holy Trinity Church, High Street, Southall, UB1 3HH.

Bricks & Bees at the Community Garden took place on Tuesday 29th April 2014 at Southall Community Garden based in the Bixley Field Allotments near Havelock Road.
